7 Songs to Listen to When You’re Depressed or Anxious
I didn’t think I would make a post like this. But after talking to a friend, I realized that some people may need a list like this.
Music has always been important to me. I love listening to music. All types (almost all at least). I have playlists on my phone for different moods and even activities (relaxing, working out (which never happens), etc.).
So I decided to share some of my favorite songs to listen to when I’m depressed or my anxiety is worse than usual.
Running In Circles (feat. Will Reagan) by United Pursuit
This is the one song that makes me cry more than any other song (and I’m not a crier). I always say that this song finds me at the right time. I can go so long without even thinking about this song, and then it randomly pops up right when I need it. God uses this song to do exactly what the lyrics say. He always reminds me that He is the only One who can bring me peace. Even when I forget, He reminds me.
This World Will Turn Your Way by Tyler Hilton
This song reminds me that we don’t always have the words and we don’t always know what to do, but that’s okay. We just have to remember that no matter how bad it gets, we have to keep going. Things will change.
Truce by twenty one pilots
I could make about fifty posts (or more) about twenty one pilots. Their music is amazing. Maybe it’s the English major in me, but I could spend hours just analyzing their lyrics. However, this is the song I picked for this post (it was a tough decision). It basically tells us that it won’t be easy, but life will go on. Getting out of this darkness may be the hardest thing you ever do, but you can get through it. It’s worth it.
Never Too Far Gone by Jordan Feliz
Let me just say that Jordan Feliz is one of the FEW contemporary Christian artists that I actually like, so it says a lot that I added him to this list. I’ve always loved this song though. It’s all about the love God has for us. It’s about how it doesn’t matter what we’ve done or where we’ve been. It doesn’t matter what paths we’ve taken in life. God sees our pain and He still loves us no matter what. Even when I’m deeply depressed and don’t want to even think about God, He still loves me and I can always come back to Him.
Last Hope by Paramore
For Hayley Williams, God is her last hope. If there is the smallest sign of hope, that’s enough to keep fighting. Things won’t get better over night, but they will get better if you hold on to that hope.
Stars by Skillet
Just read this interview with John Cooper. There’s nothing else I can add.
Fierce by Jesus Culture
This isn’t a song I would normally think of when making a list of songs to listen to when you’re depressed, but it’s a big one for me. A few years ago, I was dealing with a lot. I didn’t know what I was supposed to do in life. I had big choices to make and didn’t want to mess up. I was lost. But I talked to a friend and he told me that I wasn’t lost. He reminded me that I can’t be lost because Jesus had already found me. As long as I had Him, I would never be lost again.
A few days later, I heard this song. I didn’t think much of it until it got to the bridge. “You chase me down. You seek me out. How could I be lost when You have called me found?” After hearing almost the exact same words a few days before, I knew it was God speaking to me. I knew I would be okay somehow. Even now, I can never skip over this song.
